Jim Rose, Head Coach
Jim Rose started fencing at UMass Amherst over 40 years ago and has been coaching on the Cape for 23 years. He has studied with many great coaches including Master Mike Bunker of the International Academy of Arms. Jim is an certified US Fencing Association coach and has coached at the Tidewater Fencing Club, UMass Dartmouth, Buzzards Bay FC, and the Venice Fencing Club as a guest coach. A former Division Chairman of the New England division the of the USFA. Jim's goals in coaching is to see his fencers grow both in both body and mind and most important ENJOY THENSELVES.
Derek Newhall, Assistant Coach
Derek Newhall started fencing under coach Jim Rose when he was 11. He then trained under Alex Ripa of Rhode Island Fencing Club throughout high school. In college he was a member of the UMass Amherst fencing team where he was the foil squad captain from 2005 until 2008). While there he also run the novice fencer program designed to bring brand new fencers up to competitive level in the span of only a couple months.
